It’s normal to have painful periods, right?

Wrong!

The truth is that when the body is in balance and your uterus is functioning optimally, your periods shouldn’t hurt at all!

Most of us have grown up to believe that painful menses are normal, but it simply isn’t true. Pain is a message from your body that something isn’t right, and it is bringing your attention to it so that you can fix it.

These days dysmenorrhoea (period pain) is usually considered a nuisance best ignored, or a problem requiring medical management. One common ‘cure’ is to put women on the pill, an intervention which fails to address the root causes of the problem and switches off fertility. This short-sighted treatment can have long-term consequences when it comes to starting a family. Some women even end up resorting to surgery for painful periods – but it doesn’t have to be this way!

There is something which can put an end to the pain. Something which women can do themselves.

If you’re between the ages of 15 and 55 you should actually have little or no pain with your periods, no clots, and no dark staining or spotting – just bright red flow lasting 3 to 5 days.

Period pain is generally caused by congestion in the pelvic area. This prevents the free flow of blood from the uterus, forcing it to work harder and causing painful cramping. Maya abdominal massage is a great treatment for this as it works to relieve the congestion and ease the body back into balance.

[One client who benefited from treatment commented that ‘the first session was bliss, but it was even more wonderful to be enabled to do the massages myself. My pain was reduced, and even the skin on my tummy looked healthier!’]

100% of clients reported an improvement in their menstrual period.

Self care is the secret. Clients are taught how to do a daily massage themselves, and they visit their practitioner just once a month.

The massage is very simple and consists of a sequence of gentle movements covering the whole abdominal area. This gives clients control over their own treatment, and enables them to reconnect with their body. Usually just three sessions with the therapist is sufficient to restore healthy function. ‘Self-care’ is central to the whole Maya system because it (literally) puts the cure into the client’s own hands.’
